Artisanal Leather shoes – making

Either for clothing, bags or shoes leather has always been part in society’s products preference. Shoes, being a huge market, were first created with leather. Only later on – 1800’s- were they seen to change material. Leather was and is still used for reasons that make it useful. For their greater utility they are often handmade. To give customers better satisfaction.

Shoes weren’t always so fashionable or comfortable, but they were present since a while back. About 40,000 years ago, during the middle paleolithic period to be exact, the first shoes where invented and were constantly used. Made of wraparound leather, the shoes were lasting. After a few thousand years, europe’s baroque era greatly influenced the trend and the material. It is not until the 18 th century that men and women shoes start to differ in style, color, heel, and toe shape. Around the same time silk was very common. 1850 is a crucial date, as it was only then that shoes where made for distinct feet. Before that they were made straight, meaning that there was no differentiation from left and right shoes. Even though silk was very current, leather was still seen as one of the best quality.

Its efficiency

The usefulness of leather, was why we started to adopt it in the beginning. Leather is tough, long-lasting, eco-friendly and smells good. Depending on the animal’s species, it can be either flexible or rigid. Both quality serving well for any kind of products. Take our shoes for example, they are flexible for the baby’s foot to easily adapt to the shape. As for the first walking shoes, they are rigid with a share of flexibility for the baby’s first walk to be agreeable and secure. They are both made similarly with different soles. Now that we have advance technology, handmade items are becoming scarce and valued. They are better finished and guarantee a job for someone. Thus another reason for our decision.

Having the possibly to provide jobs for those who need them, makes me love my job all the more.” Anne quotes.

Leather is made from animal’s skin. Starting from beef to fish their skins are efficiently used for our needs and wants. The shoes are first designed and a foot cast of a certain size is used for verifications. Leaving the outline to be traced on the leather. After the outline is traced out, the assemblage is put together by sewing and gluing and is taken to a finishing specialist. A long process, with many hands behind it to bring joy to the customers. We are happy to sell these shoes with such process and quality and we hope to continue and enlarge our collection for more jobs and more smiles.
